Food Security
Food security is not only linked to the availability of food but also access, its aims to ensure that all people have access to food at all times. Many rural households in sub-Saharan Africa rely on small-scale and subsistence farming as their main source of food. With a third of the population in the region currently experiencing food insecurity, vital work needs to be done.
gorta aims to address the issue of food security through improving agriculture practices which promote an increase in crop production. Projects specifically target the smallholder farmers and pastoralists with an emphasis being placed on farm diversification. gorta also aims to reduce farmers’ vulnerability to the adverse effects of climate change and enable farmers to adopt improved methods of farming and create a sustainable long-term food security.
