Kenya
Kenya is located on the east coast of Africa. There are four main regions: the coastal plains, with regular rainfall and tropical vegetation; a sparsely populated arid inland strip; a mountainous zone with a climate tempered by altitude and volcanic soil and the western arid plateau. The main environmental problems are soil exhaustion, erosion, desertification, deforestation and water pollution, especially in and around the large cities, such as Nairobi and Mombasa.
Agriculture is still a predominant sector in Kenya and can be classified into two types, industrial and subsistence farming. The former represents the heritage of the large colonial plantations, devoted to coffee, tea, cotton, sugar cane, potatoes, tobacco, wheat, peanuts, sisal and sesame.
Subsistence farming has been traditionally based on crops such as corn, which is a staple food, manioc, beans, sorghum and fruit. The nomad tribes perform subsistence cattle raising.
gorta has a high concentration of water-based projects in Kenya because of the country's widespread water shortage problems. These projects involve sinking wells, drilling bore holes, installing water storage tanks and irrigation systems.
