Volunteering - nine out of ten recommend it!
On National Day of Volunteering, Gorta thanks its volunteers nationwide. To celebrate National Day of Volunteering today (30th September 2011), Gorta – the Freedom from Hunger Council of Ireland - revealed that a survey conducted with its volunteers found that a staggering 87.6% of the respondents said they would recommend volunteering to a friend. 62.1% gave their reason for volunteering as helping people less well off or making a difference, reiterating the generous nature of the Irish people. Through the Best Will in the World Week, Irish people can get professional, impartial advice on their will for just €50 while also helping a favourite charity after they are gone. The charities are asking for any gift, no matter what the size, as any contribution can make a difference. My Legacy is made up of a diverse mix of charities, including those which work in the areas of health, children’s issues, overseas development, social issues, human rights, and animal protection amongst other areas.
