Give your unwanted gifts to Gorta!
December 16, 2008
If you receive any unwanted gifts this Christmas, why not recycle them in one of Gorta’s ten charity shops located nationwide?
“They say Christmas is the time of giving. Perhaps the New Year can be the time for giving away! You might receive two copies of a CD or DVD - or maybe some of the gifts you receive will mean you have to do a clear-out. A new winter coat might prompt the question – what to do with the old one!” suggests Maggie Dwyer, Gorta’s Cork based Community Fundraising Manager, who adds that Gorta is unable to accept toys or electrical goods.
"Gorta shops welcome unwanted gifts as well as pre-owned items such as CDs, DVDs, books, clothes, jewellery and household goods – and all profits go to help Gorta’s important work overseas” highlights Maggie.
Gorta CEO Brian Hanratty explains that “by giving your unwanted gifts or replaced items to Gorta shops, the profits from the sale of these items will go directly to fund programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa where the need is greatest. Gorta’s work is primarily aimed at eliminating hunger - supporting agricultural activities including livestock rearing, irrigation schemes and other water-based projects.”
Since its inception, Gorta has channelled the contributions of Irish people to almost 2,000 projects in the developing world in working to realise our vision of a world where there is no hunger and where the poorest communities have the means to create a prosperous future for themselves and their children.
All Gorta shops will be open for business from 10am on Friday, 2nd January 2008. Gifts can be delivered to their charity shops located at Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Carlow, Portlaoise, Bandon, Macroom, Mallow and Skibbereen.
