Fork Off for Famine

April 26th 2010

Gorta launches Soup for Life, Friday, May 14th with ‘Souper-Model’ SoupportersWhat is Soup for Life?
We’re asking soup lovers and foodies alike to help make hunger history by gathering friends and colleagues for a fun get together over a cup, bowl or pot of soup (or any other meal that takes your fancy!) and making a contribution to gorta’s work aimed at eliminating hunger and malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa.

So what’s so special about sharing soup?
Why soup? In Ireland during the Great Famine soup kitchens fed more than one third of the population – they were critical in saving lives. This May, when Soup for Life takes place Irish people all over the world will be commemorating the Great Irish Famine. Gorta will be remembering the past, but also looking to the future.

It’s all about food, today, undernourishment affects over 1.02 billion people. But gorta believes that small actions can create opportunities for big change. Your participation would be a much valued contribution and will go a long way in helping us raise funds for programmes that provide invaluable resources and support to farmers to grow their livelihoods and become self sustaining.

So, log onto www.gorta.org/soup now or call us at callsave 1850 80 80 80 to sign up for Soup for Life day on Friday, 14th May and download your free celebrity chef soup recipes.

This campaign is set to be fun and engaging – so if you would like to learn more or need any help, please don’t hesitate to contact soup@gorta.org or phone Tanya Strahan – 085 761 0667.
