Give Your Unwanted Christmas Gifts to Gorta
2nd January 2012
Gorta has ten charity shops around the country in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Carlow and Laois.
Gorta – the Freedom of Hunger Council of Ireland has appealed to the Irish public to donate their unwanted Christmas gifts to any of their ten charity shops across Ireland - located in Cork, Dublin, Carlow, Limerick and Laois.
Any items donated, no matter how big or small, are hugely appreciated. As with many organisations across the country, the charity retail sector is going through a very challenging time at present so help is urgently needed.
Maggie Dwyer, Gorta’s Fundraising and Retail Manager said, “Christmas is traditionally a time for giving, and at Gorta we have always appreciated the tremendous support from the Irish people. Now, more than ever it is important for us to receive donations so that we can continue our work eliminating hunger in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.”
She continued, “The shops accept most unwanted gifts such as CDs, DVDs, books, clothes, jewellery, bric-a-brac and household goods. The exceptions are toys and electrical goods which cannot be accepted for health and safety reasons.”
All profits from sales of items in the shops go to Gorta’s work overseas, which is concentrated on sustainable long-term development and primarily focuses on tackling the causes of hunger such as soaring food prices and food price volatility, which have pushed almost 70 million people into extreme poverty in the past year.
Gifts can be delivered to Gorta’s ten charity shops located at Capel and Liffey Street in Dublin, Macroom, Mallow, Bandon, North Main Street and Skibbereen in Cork, Limerick, Carlow and Portlaoise. The shops will re-open for business at 10am on Tuesday, 3rd January 2012.
